The 21st Salon of WUHCED Successfully Held

 At 6:30 pm on Monday, March 21, 2016, the 21st Diplomacy and International Relations Academic Salon of Wuhan University (WHU) was held as scheduled in Meeting Room 332, School of Political Science and Public Administration (PSPA). The salon was co-hosted by Wuhan University Research Center for Economic Diplomacy (WHUCED) and the Association of Young Faculty of PSPA . We are honored to have distinguished Prof. Edurne Bartolomé, from University of Deusto, Prof. Zhang Xiaotong and Prof. Xing Ruilei, both from the Department of International Relations of WHU, joined the discussion. Besides, some foreign students also took part in the salon.

The salon was divided into two sections with regard to the theme Has economic crisis eroded trust in Institutions in Europe? Firstly, Prof. Edurne Bartolomé presented a keynote speech drawing from her own research achievements, She elaborated the current trust crisis facing the EU, brought by the refugee problem. In her elaboration, she adopted a quantitative analysis mechanism, demonstrating the changes of its members confidence towards EU institutions since the eruption of refugee crisis by actual data and cases.

Following the splendid speech was the section of heated discussion. Prof. Xing Ruilei made some comments on the speech and the two professors both expected a further discussion after the salon to find a solution to the current situation. Basing on the knowledge of his specialized field, Prof. Zhang Xiaotong also exchanged opinions and insights with Prof. Edurne Bartolomé. Students then discussed with the professors the topics intrigue them, like the influence of US presidential election on US foreign policy towards Europe, and the possibility of revival of fascism in Europe, etc.

After two hours of warm discussion, the 21st Salon came to an end in a big round of applause.
